A Project to Benefit My Sisters Closet
Submitted by Heather Claver
The Central New York Women of Steel just completed a clothing drive for the Syracuse area YWCA in Upstate NY. Over two pick-up truck loads of clothes were donated by USW Locals, as well as affiliated organizations. The clothes went to help the women at the YWCA develop appropriate professional wardrobes as they work towards obtaining employment.
The YWCA invited the WOS to a fashion show called the “Woman of Worth Fashion Show” where they showed off some of the clothes that were donated. After the fashion show we were given a tour of the YWCA and shown all the services that they have to help the women restart their lives and return to the workforce.
This project is just one of so many USW's amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them. Let us know and share video and photos at www.usw.org/uswcares and use the #USWCares hashtag when you post your stories on social media. Don't forget to shout out @Steelworkers!
