I’ve been contributing to PAC (Political Action Committee) ever since I joined the union 20 years ago. I didn’t realize why PAC was so important at first; but now I can see that when thousands of Steelworkers just like me contribute, we can fight back against corporations and lobbyists that want take away our rights as workers.
Getting laws in place that will protect workers is a lot like negotiating a fair contract – we need to have a place at the table in order to have our voices heard. That’s why we need to elect legislators that are union-friendly, and PAC is how we get that done.
Politics matter because it is another way for us to fight for our rights. That’s why I helped lead a PAC drive at my local union, and why I encourage every Steelworker to sign up to contribute what they can to PAC.
