Recently, USW/TMC (United Steelworkers/Tony Mazzocchi Center) worker-trainers from USW Local 9-288 in Oak Ridge, TN, with support from their employer UCOR, conducted a 40-hour HAZWOPER Outreach Class for 19 senior students and one adult at Sunbright High School in Sunbright, Tennessee.
This course provided these young adults with an excellent introduction to some of the health and safety issues that they will encounter as they transition into the workforce following graduation. “We are really proud of the thought process of Local 288 President Billy Edington and Staff Representative Alan Jones,” Director Daniel Flippo stated. “This is something we would like to do more in the District to introduce our Union to the Next Generation of Workers.”
