Teaching Tuesdays
The Education Department is proud to present “Teaching Tuesdays” as a series of classes that USW members can attend from the comfort of their homes.
All classes are held at either 11 a.m. or 8 p.m. EST, so if you are interested in attending one of the classes please click on the time that you can attend. Sessions run for 90 minutes.
All stewards training classes will be held on the first Tuesday of each month.
We will be using Zoom to host each session. You can create a Zoom account and/or download the software here.

May 6, 2025: Mental Health Matters
An opportunity for USW members to challenge stigmas around mental health and mental health care. Conversation will shed light on ways union membership and collective bargaining can help foster healthier work environments. Participants will explore connections between our innate need for community, our need to feel valued, and union membership.

May 20, 2025: Book Club: “A History of America in Ten Strikes”- Introduction: Strikes and American History
The fight for our union never ends, but we can learn where it began. The book “American History in 10 Strikes” by Erik Loomis tells our story. On the third Tuesday of the month—beginning May 20th—join USW members and the Education Department for a book discussion.
We’ll cover one chapter at a time. Get a copy from your local library, download an audiobook, buy used, or shop local and get ready to talk labor history!

June 10, 2025: The History, Significance and Celebration of Juneteenth
Juneteenth has been celebrated in Black communities across the U.S. since its inception on June 19, 1865, but it is only recent that it has become recognized in the mainstream as a federal holiday, along with the hallmark of holiday retail sales ads. Join us on Tuesday, June 10 when the Civil and Human Rights Department will join the Education Department for Teaching Tuesday to discuss the history of Juneteenth, how it has been recognized and celebrated, and why it matters in the 21st century.

June 17, 2025: Book Club: “A History of America in Ten Strikes”- Chapter 1, Lowell Mill Girls and the Development of American Capitalism
Gain a better understanding of the evolution of the United States through the lens of 10 strikes and 10 significant political and social moments in American history. The Education Department continues its book club with “American History in 10 Strikes” by Erik Loomis.
