Labor Supporting Fired Management

Former president Demoulas, in a counter offer, stated he would return the crippled chain to normal operations by resuming control of the business while he negotiates to buy the company from rival family members.  Demoulas’ offer came only a few hours before the company was scheduled to begin to fire employees loyal to Demoulas if they did not return to work.

As this is being written (August 5, 2014), most Market Basket stores are without fresh food and normal customer traffic because employees loyal to former president Demoulas refuse to return to work.  According to Steve Paulenka, a top Market Basket supervisor among the eight fired in July, Demoulas has made his counter offer “out of compassion for us, I’m sure.”

It’s a fascinating twist on labor protests…
