Koch Brothers + Mitch McConnell = Moving Backwards

Here’s what Sen. McConnell said:  “We’re not going to be debating all these gosh darn proposals. That’s all we do in the Senate is vote on things like raising the minimum wage … cost the country 500,000 new jobs; extending unemployment … Uh, the student loan package the other day, that’s just going to make things worse, uh. These people believe in all the wrong things.”

So, according to Sen. McConnell, trying to help folks in need, like those whose unemployment compensation has expired or students drowning in debt but still unable to find jobs, means one believes in the wrong things.  In support of that non sequitur, just before the conference started, McConnell helped block Sen. Elizabeth Warren’s bill that would have let students refinance their loans.

The intransigence of people like the Koch Brothers and Sen. McConnell leaves us only one option.  We must continue to work for economic fairness, with every tool at our disposal.  First up: turning out in big numbers to vote later this year.
