Graduating seniors in the welding program at the Pike County Career Technology Center (CTC) as well as their instructor, Pete Lambert, completed training on Thursday in Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
According to Jack Angel, a HAZWOPER worker-trainer, the training is a Department of Energy (DOE) course that is given to all the workers in decontamination and decommissioning at the Piketon plant site.
“It’s a course that’s required nationwide, and, of course, this is a valuable thing to have on your resume,” Angel said. “The DOE grant that allows us to provide this training allows us also … when the budget allows … to offer it to the community — to those people who are in or just about to enter the job market, as these seniors are” … more
