USW Convention | April 7-10, 2025 Get registration information here
The Women of Steel at USW Local 7687 have been busy this spring doing volunteer work to build their community. Led by Tracy Hess, Theresa Holmes and Sally Shoemaker, the committee spent a day supporting the local food pantry Harvest of Hope. Through enormous genorosity, the food drive yielded 752 pounds of food items. Harvest of Hope supports many needy families throughout several York, Pa., area communities.
The women’s committee also led a project for Earth Day. The Women of Steel on April 23, 2016, went on litter patrol at Blair Station in York, Pa. Although it was a rainy Saturday, fun was had by all. Three members of the Women of Steel committee along with retiree Sylvia Deshong and friend Wanda Coyler picked up litter within the community. Seven large bags of litter were gathered in a short period of time.
It’s this kind of important community service that is at the heart of the USW Cares program, which highlights the union’s mission to build stronger communities where we live and work and help everyone have the opportunity for a better life. This project is just one of so many USW’s amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them.
