Leo Gerard talks solidarity against hate on Leslie Marshall

President Leo W. Gerard joined Leslie Marshall this week to talk about the connections between alt-right organizations, their sowing of hate, and how they do this with the financial support of billionaire elites who fund these efforts in order to divide workers.

“Not every billionaire is a hate-monger,” Gerard said, “but lots of hate-mongers are billionaires.”

Gerard spoke on the unchecked power of corporate-funded bigotry during a time when many workers are struggling to make ends meet. Corporations, unfortunately, feed on this vulnerability in order to foment unrest and desperation. From funding voter suppression efforts to lobbying to wipe out the Affordable Care Act, the root of it all, to Gerard, is greed.

“Workers have more to do with each other than they could ever be connected to the kind of society that these extreme right-wingers are promoting,” said Gerard.

But the fact of the matter is, Gerard says, “there are more of us than there are of them.”

“Solidarity wins,” Gerard said. “And we have to confront them with the truth.”
