About 50 Steelworkers who have been looked out at Allegheny Technologies (ATI) since August 15 traveled to New York City to confront ATI executives at the Gabelli & Company’s 21st Annual Aircraft Supplier Conference.  ATI had previously issued a press release indicating that its Vice President, Dan Greenfield, would be speaking to investors at the event, but the company, and the event organizers kept the location and time of the conference a secret.  Locked out Steelworkers were able to track down the ATI executives and the conference at the Grand Hyatt in New York City.

Steelworkers and supporters traveled from as far as Ohio, Pennsylvania, Upstate New York, Connecticut and Massachusetts to demonstrate in front of the conference.  Chants of “What do we want? Fair contract!” could be heard over the Gabelli Company’s live webinar broadcast of the conference.  Meanwhile a Steelworker activist was able to gain entry to the conference and confront ATI Vice President Dan Greenfield during the ‘question and answer’ session of the company’s presentation.  When asked about the financial risks associated with paying inexperienced replacement workers as much as $150,000 per year to operate its facilities, Greenfield stuttered and then admitted that he couldn’t answer the questions.

Today the locked out workers sent a strong message to ATI: no matter how far you run, you can’t hide from the Steelworkers!
