Save Our Steel Jobs Moves to US Steel Fairfield Works

Save Our Steel Jobs (#SOSjobs) rally moved to the US Steel Fairfield Works and Tubular Operations plant in Fairfield, ALA on June 16. The event was hosted by the Alliance for American Manufacturing (AAM), along with partnership from the United Steelworkers and United States Steel Corporation.

Speakers at the rally included Alabama Representative Robert Aderholt and Congresspersons Terri Sewell, Spencer Bachus, along with Alliance for American Manufacturing President Scott Paul, United Steelworkers District 9 Director Daniel Flippo, Local 1013 President David Clark and US Steel Fairfield Tubular Operations Plant Manager Patrick J. Mullarkey.

Thousands of American jobs are at risk pending a ruling from the U.S. Department of Commerce on the investigation of steel dumping of OCTG products.

Oil Country Tubular Goods, or OCTG, are the steel pipe products used in the extraction of oil and natural gas and play a critical role in our quest to become energy independent. Our oil and natural gas infrastructure should be built with American-made steel. Domestic producers use state-of-the-art technology and employ thousands of American workers who stand ready to do that if given a fair chance to compete.

The next stop on the SOS Jobs tour will take place in Virginia, Minn. On June 23 and will feature Governor Mark Dayton.
