Our District 9 Rapid Response Conference delegation made their presence known throughout Capitol Hill April 25-27, 2016. Unfortunately, we were not always greeted by enthusiastic Congressman.
Steelworkers Joe Shelley (LU 508), Kenneth Chavis (LU 508-03), Wendell McGee (LU 377) and Josh McConnell (LU 377) walked the legislative halls searching for Representatives Tom Rice and Mark Sanford.
Congressman Rice happened to be in the office when our Steelworkers arrived yet made no effort to acknowledge his constituents. Rice went so far as to rise up from his desk and shut his door in their face. Our members finally spoke with the representative’s Legislative Director whence they aired our concerns facing working families.
Congressman Mark Sanford and his Legislative Director followed the same lines as Congressman Rice. Sanford’s non supportive demeanor made it evident middle class jobs were not his focus.
These meetings are a clear reminder of the importance in electing people who will fight for American workers and jobs, not just their corporate donors.
A very big thank you for the hard work of our District 9 delegates during the 2016 Rapid Response Conference. Our efforts did not go unnoticed and our voice rang out loud and strong!
