To kick off the District 10 Conference this year, things were done a little differently, thanks to Darren K. Parr law firm for sponsoring the first District 10 Bocce Ball Tournament. Darren, whose father was a steelworkers, and inspired him to go into labor law, said it was an honor and pleasure to give back to the ones that supported his family growing up.
The tournament started out with dinner but then quickly got down to business. With 12 teams, the tournament gained excitement as teams were knocked off one by one until finally down to the last two with members from Local 1165 and Local 8183 taking the coveted cup.
Vonnie Long, president of 1165 said he was excited about the conference because “we are all from families with generations in n the plate mill in Coatesville and/or the steel industry. We are active in our union because we know these are great jobs (although tough jobs a times) and we want to see them available or our children and grandchildren.”
All agreed this was a great way to get to know their brothers and sisters and break the ice before kicking off USW District 10 2015 Conference.
