Fair Pay and the Right to Vote

Progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall and USW International Vice President of Human Affairs Fred Redmond discussed President Obama’s  proposal to extend mandatory overtime pay, the minimum wage and voting in 2014 in a recent interview.

It was just last week that the President directed the Labor Department to revamp its regulations to require overtime pay for several million additional fast-food managers, loan officers, computer technicians and others whom many businesses currently classify as ”executive or professional’ employees to avoid paying them overtime. Marshall and Redmond talked about the orchestrated attacks on American working families by Republicans and the Chamber of Commerce who are fighting against the President’s proposal.

They noted that despite soaring increases in corporate profits and productivity, workers’ wages have fallen to an all-time low as a share of the economy.

Redmond said this is an attempt by Republicans to be the voice of those who they really represent – the corporation. They went on to talk about a continued attack on voting rights being implemented across America in conservative states.
