Trump Unfit to Lead Nation

USW International President Leo W. Gerard and progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall this week discussed Donald Trump and the countless reasons he is unsuitable to be president of the United States.

“In a dozen ways, he’s not qualified,” said Gerard. From suggesting America might use nuclear weapons as a part of its foreign policy to Trump’s proposal that the country completely void its existing trade deals, “some of the things he says should be automatic disqualifiers.”

A Trump presidency would also put Americans’ economic prospects in grave danger.

Trump has said that workers make too much and encouraged companies to take their factories to states where they can pay workers less. He called Social Security a Ponzi scheme and suggested privatizing it. And despite his empty rhetoric about bad trade deals, Trump continues to offshore production of his clothing line and the furnishings for his hotels.

Trump’s business practices, from cheating his private contractors to refusing to negotiate with his union work force, make it clear that he is thinking only of himself—not working people.

To preserve national security and safeguard workers’ rights, “the onus is on us to win this election and win it big time,” said Gerard.

“I’ve said sometimes, ‘this is the most important election of my life,’” said Gerard. “I’m not saying that anymore. This is the most important election of America’s life. This is an election that’s going to chart the future for America on the world stage.”
