Two Steelworkers Inducted Into Louisiana AFL-CIO Hall of Fame

During the Louisiana AFL-CIO Convention held this week, two (2) United Steelworker Brothers Gary Fuslier and Gerry Mims were inducted into the Hall of Fame.

groupD13Brother Fuslier was a retired Staff Representative at the time of his death.  He was a former President and Secretary-Treasurer of Local 13-500, now known as Local 13-555, in Sulphur, Louisiana.  He retired from Cit-Con Petroleum after 30 years of service.  

Gary serviced locals in Southwest Texas, Southwest Louisiana and one Local in Aruba.  He was known as a skilled and tenacious union leader especially when it came to protecting the rights of union workers at the bargaining table. 

His wife, Debbie Fuslier, accepted the award.

Brother Gerry Mims joined the union when he began working in the Great Plains Bag Mill in 1969.  He served in several positions of Local 1505 in Hodge, Louisiana.  Brother Mims was active in the Jonesboro-Hodge Area Central Trades and Labor Council and served as an officer of the Council for 40 years.  He is a District Vice President of the Louisiana AFL-CIO trioD13Executive Board.   Gerry is actively involved in several organizations including the Pulp & Paper Workers Resource Council, their National Steering Committee, Jackson Parish School Board, Workforce Investment Board #83, Louisiana Workforce Investment Council, and Jackson Parish NAACP.  He is also serves as a Deacon and Treasurer of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
