USW Cares: Local 2285 Helps to Feed those in Need in Massachusetts

Submitted by Tom Baribeault, Local 2285 Next Generation Co-Chairman

2285needyOn November 26, the Next Generation committee from United Steelworkers Local 2285 in Auburn, Mass. co-sponsored a food drive for local families in need with the AFL-CIO. Members collected over $1,000 in cash, $250 in gift cards and many non-perishables. Every year, the company that represents Local 2285 gives each employee a turkey vouchers and each year we have generous Steelworkers that donate the turkeys back.

As they’ve done for many years, they delivered turkeys and food to two great community facilities in Worcester – the Friendly House and the Veterans Shelter. Over 100 needy families received a 14-pound turkey and a gift basket loaded with all the fixings.

This was another successful year of volunteerism shown the brothers and sisters of USW Local 2285.

This project is just one of so many USW’s amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them. Let us know and share video and photos at www.usw.org/uswcares and use the #USWCares hashtag when you post your stories on social media. Don’t forget to shout out @Steelworkers!
