USW Cares: Local 6717 Building Community Spirit in Weyburn, Saskatchewan

Submitted by Brad Thompson

United Steelworkers Local 6717 in District 3 has purchased two pieces of playground equipment in the last year and has helped to set up the first special needs accessible playground in Weyburn, Saskatchewan.

The first piece was an indoor jungle gym that the local donated to “the family place” which is a unique program that provides day care for low income and special needs children, as well as numerous other programs to help children and families.

They also donated a fire truck play structure to a local nonprofit daycare cooperative. The local sent a crew to help build the first fully accessible play ground in our community.

This project is just one of so many USW’s amazing members do every day to give back to our communities. If you or your local are doing good things in your community, we want to hear about them. Let us know and share video and photos at www.usw.org/uswcares and use the #USWCares hashtag when you post your stories on social media. Don’t forget to shout out @Steelworkers!
