In a show of continuing support and solidarity, USW Local 235A, with help from District 13, distributed Thanksgiving meals to locked-out members and their families this week at our union hall.
Besides generating good cheer among our members as we enter our second holiday season while locked out of our jobs, the event generated news coverage from local television stations and newspapers.
“This is just another example of how Steelworkers stick together and look out for each other,” said Local President Terry Howard.
Meanwhile, our bargaining committee is looking forward to resuming talks with Sherwin next week after holding meetings with the company last week.
Unfortunately, the company continues to use the difficult state of our industry as an excuse to keep our brothers and sisters locked out for nearly 14 months.(Each time we have met, the company has continued to reduce its proposals, and Sherwin indicated that would be the case in any future talks. We have continued to make counter-proposals and to bargain in good faith, but it is difficult to reach an agreement when the goal line keeps moving backwards.
We look forward to continuing our negotiations with the company next week, and we remain committed to reaching an agreement that is fair to both sides.
