USW Paper Workers Set the Tone for the Next Round of Bargaining

500 delegates gathered at the Westing Convention Center to Stand Up. Speak Out. For Safety.

On Tuesday, April 5, the first day of the conference, delegates focused on improving safety regulations and protecting the paper industry through the union’s bargaining and legislative powers. Assistant to the International President Leeann Foster proposed a 10-point plan was adopted by the attendees as a guideline on how the industry and our union can work together on refining and implementing safety regulations.

The need for this plan was evident as 20 empty chairs filled the middle of the room — representing the paper workers’ lives that were lost since the last conference. USW International Vice President Jon Geenan paid a special tribute to our fallen brothers and sisters.
