Members of United Steelworkers District 12 and Los Mineros met in mid-March to share their fourth cross-border training event in Tucson, Ariz. The first training event was held in late July 2014 in Agua Prieta, Sonora. The second week of meetings and training sessions took place in Tucson, Ariz. at the end of September last year. They came together for the third training in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico in November 2014.
On the second morning, participants tuned in for a Skype conversation with Napoleon Gomez, General Secretary of Los Mineros, who re-stated his support and commitment to continued training.
Training included:
Day 1 – Mexican-American labor history in the Southwestern U.S.;
Day 2 – U.S. labor law and labor reform law in Mexico;
Day 3 – Money in politics and uneven distribution of wealth.
“The future for this joint program continues to build not only in solidarity but with potential solutions to our issues,” said District 12 Director Bob LaVenture.
To end a full day of training, participants were treated to an evening pre-season major league baseball game in Phoenix.
