USW Announces Agreement with Anchor Glass: Two-year Contract Ends Labor Dispute

PITTSBURGH – The United Steelworkers (USW) today announced that the union has reached an agreement with Anchor Glass Container on a contract, thereby ending an unfair labor practice strike by about 150 workers at nine U.S. Anchor locations after almost three weeks.

The USW said that the new contract includes a dollar wage increase split evenly between its first and second years and raises pensions through the Steelworkers Pension Trust.

The union said that employees will continue to share in a small portion of the cost of their health insurance with no increase in deductibles, out-of-pocket maximums or co-pays and limited increases in weekly contributions throughout the contract’s duration.

The union said other negotiated benefits include contract language improvements and additional benefits for workers called into active military service.

The union said that most of the terms and conditions take effect immediately or retroactively to the beginning of the month and that workers should be ready to resume production this week and next.

The USW represents about 800,000 working men and women in the United States and Canada in a wide variety of industries, ranging from glass making to mining, paper, steel, tire and rubber and other manufacturing environments to the public sector, service and health care industries.
