Manchester, NH  (Aug. 9) – The United Steelworkers (USW) District 4 political education committee has announced endorsement support of Maggie Hassan for Governor of New Hampshire, joined by activist leaders who are mobilizing in their neighborhoods at manufacturing and service units across the state for her election this fall.

Alan Browning, Jr., a USW Local 12012 activist employed at Liberty Utilities and a Manchester resident declared: “Maggie’s proven history as the Majority Leader in the State Senate and her ability to forge bipartisan support for issues that affect working families, gubernatorial Democratic candidate Hassan is just what New Hampshire needs to lead us forward to grow the state economy and sustain good jobs.”

He adds, “With the viability of our state’s working class families among her top priorities and her innovative plans to enrich all levels of education,  job growth and security, Maggie will do what is best for the citizens of New Hampshire.”

USW Director John Shinn of the New England regional district confirmed the union’s enthused support for the gubernatorial candidate. “Hassan has listened to New Hampshire workers and has laid out a vision to create jobs and prosperity. We will be mobilizing our members for her primary election Sept. 11 and she’ll be the strongest candidate in the November general election,” he said.

“Maggie stands up for working people in the state by opposing ‘right to work for less’ and instead supports the right of all New Hampshire workers to collective bargaining with their employers.”

As a union for workers in the manufacturing, energy and health care service sector in New Hampshire, Shinn said the USW represents a diverse workforce of hundreds of active and retired workers in natural gas service, water utilities, box board and paper mills, nursing homes plus the state’s largest granite stone quarry.

“I am appreciative of the USW statewide mobilization for my campaign,” Hassan said. “Workers are the backbone to keep New Hampshire moving forward. As Governor, my focus will be on building an innovative economy that gives middle class families the opportunity to succeed.”
