PITTSBURGH – The United Steelworkers (USW) announced today that it has reached a tentative agreement with Goodyear on a new four-year labor agreement covering 8,500 of the company’s hourly employees at six locations. A previous four-year contract was scheduled to expire at midnight, July 27.

“The new tentative agreement includes economic and non-economic improvements for all union represented Goodyear employees, which led the committee to unanimously endorse it for ratification by the membership,” said USW International Vice President Tom Conway, head of the union’s bargaining team.

Specific details are being withheld until bargaining committee members can directly discuss contract provisions on the local level. Dates for the informational meetings and ratification votes will be set in the coming days.

USW members covered by this include workers employed in facilities in Buffalo, N.Y., Topeka, Kan., Fayetteville, N. C., Danville, Va., Gadsden, Ala., and Akron, Ohio.

Overall, the USW represents about 850,000 workers in the United States, Canada and the Caribbean in a wide variety of industries, ranging from glassmaking to mining, steel, oil, paper, tire and rubber to the public sector, service and health care industries. For more information: www.usw.org.
