Some may say that that was in the past and that unions have already served their purpose and are no longer needed. I say that with the gap between the haves and have-nots growing, the evaporation of the middle class, and the ridiculous ratio of company CEO salary to Average worker salary, unions are needed more than ever today.
Since the 1970’s, big business through strong lobbying has done a great job trying to eradicate what’s left of FDR’s New Deal (waging war on unions and the sick/poor, regressive tax system favoring the wealthy, job-killing trade agreements, revoking Glass-Steagall, etc.), which has brought us to where we are today economically. By also creating media conglomerates, they have been also able to sway public opinion of unions.
Unions are not the problem, but are actually the last line of defense for the survival of the Middle Class. And don’t get me wrong, both parties are responsible for being beholden and bowing to big business.
