USW International President Leo W. Gerard and progressive talk show host Leslie Marshall this week discussed how to move forward from the midterm elections.
Regardless of party affiliation, the vast majority of Americans want economic growth, and they want it to benefit more than just the wealthiest 1 percent.
To achieve that goal under new Republican leadership, Americans must demand policies that genuinely help working people, Gerard said.
“What we’ve got to do is go and challenge them on the issues,” said Gerard. “Where do they stand on raising the minimum wage? Where do they stand on unemployment compensation? Where do they stand on infrastructure?”
The midterm election suffered from an array of problems, from outside dark money, to poor messaging, to low voter turnout. But the way forward is clear. “We’ve got to go and demand representation on the issues that people care about,” said Gerard.
