Labor Day falls in an interesting time of our political season, when the primary race ends and the general-election cycle begins. No doubt politicians will praise workers on the day that pays tribute to their contributions to the strength and well-being of our nation, but most candidates likely will avoid mentioning the words union or labor.
That's a shame.
The assault on unions has caused many politicians to shy away from courting labor's endorsement for fear of being maligned. If history repeats itself (and there are signs that it is), that may change in future political seasons.
Too many people have forgotten the contributions unions have made for generations. When unions were strong, people had good-paying jobs, we had a strong middle class and America overall was stronger and more prosperous ... more
