Union Families Deserve Better!
Corning Disrespects Union Workers by Leaving Us Out of New Paid Parental Leave Policy
Corning announced that they will offer paid parental leave to non-union employees in the U.S. starting this July. Management is purposefully choosing to exclude USW members from this new benefit. This is outrageous and unacceptable!
This new policy will provide up to 12 consecutive weeks of paid leave available to both birth and non-birth parents at any time during the first 12 months of birth, adoption, or foster placement.
Management suggested that the USW can demand to bargain this issue, however just a few years ago Corning included and provided an additional paid holiday (Martin Luther King, Jr. Day) to USW members at the same time as all other U.S. employees—without this demand to bargain over it.
After selflessly risking your health and potentially exposing your families by reporting to work every day throughout the pandemic, Corning has chosen to ignore USW members’ commitment and the value of our hard work instead of rewarding it.
When management rolled out the Corning Family Support Network and worked on developing a parental leave policy, they said, “Having a parental leave policy that is at least comparable to other top U.S. companies will ensure that Corning improves its competitiveness and is able to further enhance employee engagement and productivity.”
USW members are engaged and have a long, proud tradition of being productive for this company. It is completely disrespectful to leave us out of this important work-life balance benefit.
We make Corning successful. We deserve the same respect and support as other employees as we grow our families and go through important life transitions.
Our union is working to resolve this issue - and we need your support.
Look out for more info as this develops and be ready to take action if needed to show management we’re serious about standing up for equal treatment!
