While the pandemic had significant impacts on the glass bottle market globally, O-I bounced back thanks to a dedicated union workforce. Now, it’s our turn.
As we prepare for bargaining, we only need to look at O-I’s own projections to know we have earned and deserve a contract that honors our hard work.
In public statements, the company said it exceeded expectations for 2021 and has a favorable outlook for 2022 with expectations for higher earnings.
In fact, throughout 2021, net sales increased by nearly 10 percent over 2020. The company saw increases in sales volume, production volume and operating profits. Most notably it made significant moves to reduce debt, including selling its Australian and New Zealand operations.
In a letter to investors and stakeholders last year, CEO Andres Lopez said that after nearly 120 years in business, “We are actively living by the mantra of our founder, Michael J. Owens: ‘It can be done.’”
We agree!
A fair contract is achievable.
