Happy New Year brothers and sisters! Most of you just engaged in your first ever work stoppage. I applaud all of you that went out - workers united can never be defeated!! We all wish that we could just get a fair contract and not have to strike, but Edgewood will not stop violating the law. They continue to interfere with our rights, and not bargain in good faith with us.

Through this action, we showed them we’re united and the community and residents support us. The articles were terrific! Now that we have the public’s attention, we will continue to keep our community informed about Edgewood’s behavior. Good contracts aren’t given they are earned!

We’re scheduled to continue bargaining on January 7th. We reviewed our proposals again and are prepared to fight for the contract you and our residents deserve.

While we’ve heard rumors that the Company wants to sue the Union for taking part in protected activity, we all just showed them that we’re not afraid of their baseless attacks. We have the power! The Union and its members have done nothing illegal. In fact, we are in the process of preparing new charges against the company for their unlawful actions. Hopefully with the strike the Labor Board will start moving on our charges, and since Edgewood continues to violate the law, they could end up in court.

Edgewood could choose to bargain in good faith with you and end this fight with dignity for workers and Sierra Hills. Instead, they’re seeking to break the workers and drag this out. I have never dealt with a Company that’s violated the law as much as Edgewood. I have never seen a Company care so little for their employees, or the residents that we care for, and we will not stand for it! I still firmly believe that every hourly employee of Edgewood should have a strong Union where we fight together for what’s right.

Keep up the good work! We will not rest until we get a fair contract!

In Solidarity,

William Wilkinson, USW Staff Representative for Sierra Hills
