What is a picket line?

Picket lines are how we show RWJ and the community our solidarity and strength. All members are expected to participate in the unfair labor practice strike, which includes picketing. Picket lines will be set up at multiple locations around the hospital and will run every day of the strike, including a 24-hour picket line at the ER entrance at our Little Albany Street location.

We want to ensure our pickets are organized, disciplined and family friendly. Each picket line has picket captains who are responsible for ensuring the safety of members, supporters and patients, as well as making sure our lines don’t interrupt patient care or medical transport and that picketing occurs only at designated areas. They are available to help answer questions, handle incidents and track picketing activity.

Can kids and family members join us on the picket line?

Absolutely. When our families stand with us on the line it shows management how much support we have.

When does picketing begin?

Picketing is scheduled to begin on Friday, Aug. 4 at 7 a.m. Do not show up to picket before 7 a.m.

If you are scheduled to work before 7 a.m. that day, report to work as scheduled. Your union will let you know when the strike begins, and then you will follow your normal end of shift procedures before walking out together.

Where do I go to picket?

There are three picket lines. Members will be assigned to a line based on the building and department you work in. Check below to see where you should go and how to sign-up for picket shifts. If you have questions, contact your picket captain coordinator.

Where can I park?

Among other publicly available locations, these publicly owned parking garages should be available for parking: Plum Street Garage, Paterson Street Deck, Gateway Garage.

I can’t picket because I am on sick leave, what else can I do?
