Bargaining Update #5: Aug. 19 2022

Our USW negotiating committee returned to Pittsburgh this week to resume face-to-face meetings with Cleveland-Cliffs management.

Early in the week, U.S. Sen. Bob Casey from Pennsylvania visited negotiations and spent time with our committee. Our bargaining is important because the steel industry is absolutely essential throughout the supply chains for everything from infrastructure to national defense.

At the table, negotiations continued this week, and we have resolved many local issues and issues related to contract language. However, we still have significant work to do on profit sharing issues, pension issues and other economic issues.

We know that Cliffs wants to lead and be the best in the industry and we can and will work with the company to make it happen. Our discussions and relationship with management has been positive, and we continue to be optimistic.

The company and the industry remain highly profitable, and now is the time for Steelworkers to receive a fair and equitable contract with security for our earnings, benefits and retirements.

As Sept. 1 contract expiration approaches, we encourage you to keep in touch with your local union and continue to stay focused on working safely.

Our work at the table is not finished yet, but we will provide updates as bargaining continues.

Be safe! Stay united! Our unity and solidarity will prevail!
