District 13 Honors Our Union Sister Velma Perkins

At the recent District 13 Council Meeting, on behalf of Director Ruben Garza and Women of Steel, Assistant to the Director John Link presented Jennifer Irvin from Local 13-1327, a plaque to present to the family of Velma Perkins who was fatally injured September 18th in a railway accident at Domtar Paper in Ashdown, Arkansas.  Velma was an activist for over 24 years.

The District 13 Council also contributed the proceeds from their 50/50 raffle to her family.  In addition the winner, Larry Burchfield, President of the D13 Council and Vice President of Local 13-1 in Texas City, Texas, donated his winnings to Velma’s family.  The donation for her family was $1400. 

Thanks to the District 13 Council for the good work they do for the District.
